Indian Aces Captures IPTL champions; Djokovic loses to Berdych
The Indian Aces were awarded the championship trophy for the inaugural International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) following the upset by the Singapore Slammers against hosts UAE Royals on Friday.
UAE's top gun world No. 1 Novak Djokovic lost to Czech Tomas Berdych 6-5 in the deciding 5-minute shootout that resulted to a narrow 23-21 win over the hosts.
This has affected the overall points outcome in which the Indian Aces remained on top at 38 points followed by the UAE Royals in second with 33 points. The Manila Mavericks was in third place while the Singapore Slammers is at fourth with 31 and 23 points respectively.
The first match features the Indian Aces winning against the Manila Mavericks as France's Fabrice Santoro were able to sustain Australian veteran Mark Philippoussis 6-3.
The Aces built on that strong start with Gael Monfils dominating fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga before winning 6-2.
